How the server side works

Proof of Budget's backend is a thin relay for Plaid account linking. It stores only a pseudonymous Apple user identifier, Plaid item IDs, institution labels, the encrypted Plaid access token (AES-256-GCM), webhook replay metadata, and subscription-tier metadata.

Transaction data, balances, account details, holdings, and investment transactions are returned to the authenticated app and are never persisted or logged server-side. Access tokens are never returned to clients and never logged; log lines are built from a strict field allowlist. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
